Delaware to Invest $350K in 10 Environmental Projects in 2026: Funding from Penalty Fines to Boost Community ProjectsDelaware is set to allocate nearly $350,000 to ten environmental projects across the state in 2026, thanks to the Community Environmental Project Fund managed by DNREC. This program uses penalties from environmental violations to fund projects that tackle pollution, improve the environment, and create recreational spots. The Pollution Accountability Act, signed into law earlier this year, increases the percentage of penalty funding returned to communities from 25% to 40% and prioritizes projects near the violation location. This initiative has already invested millions in community projects, with a focus on underserved areas. In 2025, the Sussex Health and Environmental Network received funding for their CLEAR Project, providing clean tap water to families who had been without it for over a decade.
