Delmarva Power Announces Infrastructure Investments and Customer Assistance ExpansionDelmarva Power has announced plans to invest further in its natural gas system and boost customer assistance programs. This follows a regulatory settlement regarding its gas delivery operations. For a typical residential customer in northern Delaware, using fifty-six CCF per month, gas delivery rates will see an increase of two dollars, or three percent, starting January first, two thousand twenty-six. This comes after an earlier adjustment of eight dollars per month in April two thousand twenty-five.The company states that this settlement supports ongoing efforts to improve the safety and reliability of its natural gas infrastructure. This includes significant upgrades at its liquefied natural gas facility in Wilmington and the continued replacement of older pipelines. Delmarva Power reports that these modernization efforts have already led to a twenty-two percent reduction in natural gas leaks in two thousand twenty-four compared to the previous three-year average, and a nearly forty-eight percent drop in service interruptions compared to two thousand twenty-three.According to Delmarva Power, the improvements at the LNG facility will allow them to buy and store natural gas all year round. This is expected to cut supply costs by an estimated one point eight five million dollars annually. The company emphasizes that these upgrades are designed to enhance system performance, especially during times of high demand for natural gas.The settlement itself came after a thorough review process that involved input from various stakeholders and public participation. Marcus Beal, Delmarva Powers region president, acknowledged that any rate change can be difficult for customers. He stated that the company focused on reaching a settlement that balances affordability with the necessary investments to keep natural gas service safe and reliable.Beyond infrastructure projects, Delmarva Power is expanding its efforts to connect customers with energy assistance and bill management programs. This includes community outreach events and partnerships with local organizations. One key initiative is the Delmarva Power Customer Relief Fund, a four point five million dollar program offering one-time grants of up to three hundred dollars to eligible limited- to moderate-income customers, along with energy-use counseling.
