Glenview shoppers, brace yourselves! That grocery tax isn't going anywhere. Starting January 1st, a new local 1% tax replaces the expiring state tax, hitting your wallet to the tune of $2.7 million to keep the village budget afloat. Some officials call it unfair to low-income families, but most agree it's a necessary evil, for now, joining other nearby towns in keeping the tax alive. Is it forever? Glenview leaders say they're open to changes, but only time (and budget talks) will tell.
