At twelve or thirteen years old, she was just walking beside a creek in the woods. But around the bend, she discovered something impossible. A cabin, her grandfather on the porch, and a peace she still struggles to put into words. He had been gone for years. Yet he looked at her, surprised, concerned… and told her she wasn’t supposed to be there. In this gentle and emotional story, she describes the overwhelming beauty of the place she visited, the love she felt hugging her grandfather again, and the moment he sent her back. Later in life, she learned she had sleep apnea, a possible medical reason for why she stopped breathing but she knows what she experienced was real. Her visit with her grandfather brought comfort, hope, and a deep belief that there is something more after this life. Even if the people closest to her never believed her, she holds onto the memory like it happened yesterday because it changed her forever.
