Troy Deeney is Birmingham City Football Club’s Captain. Yet his focus over the past few years has expanded from football pitch to the classroom. His experiences of the school system are rocky to say the least. He was excluded from school aged just 15 and left with no GCSEs because he looked like “trouble”. One teacher even told him there “was more of a chance he’d be dead by 25 than be a footballer”... he proved them wrong. Now Troy is trying to reform the school system; campaigning for black, Asian and minority ethnic history to be made compulsory in all schools across the country.
