Hello and welcome to this week's My Big Idea, as Asos podcast giving young women advice and inspiration to start their own businesses. Asos editor Danielle Radojcin speaks with our guest, Author Lisa Owens about how her book came into being, her struggles with the job market and her plans for the future.Recently published by Picador, Lisa's debut novel, Not Working, is the story of a life unravelling and a novel that asks the questions we've never dared to say out loud.In her late twenties, Lisa quit her job in marketing to enable her to follow her ambitions in life. The result? Countless afternoons spent in the good company of her sofa, bags of Doritos and Ted talks on youtube. Not Working is written as a series of sections ranging from a couple of lines to a few pages, a device that mirrors Claire’s unstructured days and lack of direction, as well as the classic diary format of comic precursors such as Bridget Jones’s Diary and the Adrian Mole books. The self deprecating novel is a picture of 1st century young adulthood, saturated with uncertainty, anxiety and the internet, and has been featured on the Guardian online, The Book Seller and Goodreads.com, popular for its humour and relatable honesty. This is Lisa's big idea.
