They kept making Ghostbusters movies didn't they. Ghostbusters 2016 acted not as a sequel but in fact as a franchise reboot. Answer The Call as it's sometimes titled brings in an entirely new director and cast as it aimed to capture the magic of the original. Somethings something save New York from an impending supernatural threat. Also they happened to be female and some people did not like it. To put it lightly.
