It’s time for Staff Picks from your Movies that Make Us crew and this
month, we each selected a Director with offbeat, unique, and interesting
points of view/films.
Tracy discussed three films from the library of Darren Aronofsky: The
Fountain, The Wrestler, and Black Swan. Three very different films, but still
work together in excellent character development and cinematography.
Jake selected Tim Burton and discusses Edward Scissorhands, Batman
Returns, and Corpse Bride. Jake talks about how these three films show
the depth and reach of Burton’s library, but each has his distinctive
flourishes. Val selected Robert Rodriguez and took a slightly different
approach and discusses the different phases of his film library. From his
independent work on El Mariachi and From Dusk to Dawn and moving into
Spy Kids and his work as a producer, and then into his short films with
Demi Lovato, Lady Gaga, and as the director of her favorite episode of the
Mandolorian.
What are your thoughts on these directors? Next week, it’s the start of
March Madness as we take on films that deal with the weird, unusual, and
surprising. As always, you can reach us at
