Description

Today on the pod we’ve got a legend of the Myco game -- Distinguished citizen scientist, author and mycopreneur -

Permaculture Papi, AKA Mycosymbi, aka William Padilla-Brown.

Today we talk about DNA Barcoding of fungi and the equipment that William uses to catalogue and contribute his finds to databases, we talk about the synergistic relationship potential between algae and fungi (phycology and mycology) -- we talk equity and access to fungi educatio), and in fact we pop into uncharted territory with a little dialogue about Will's forays into the world of marine fungi.

This dude is on another level -- he’s the archetypal embodiment of everything a Mycoprener can be, and it’s an absolute privilege to host him today.

I used to teach high school Multimedia Production at a world renowned Title 1 charter school in San Diego -- by definition a Title 1 school means that the majority of the students come from low income demographics, from communities of color and historically marginalized populations, and *I wish* that I had known Will back then because I firmly believe that environmental apathy, the pop culture machine, the click bait and trolling and attention deficit democracy and institutionalized racism baked into our world order are only thriving right now because science and education lack the swag factor, they lack the sexiness that they deserve when represented to young inquiring minds.

That’s all starting to change thanks to Permaculture Papi and those like him at the vanguard of citizen science and the mushroom revolution.
