Dave Flanagan walks us through his first job as an illustrator, which just happened to be with his boyhood club and how, Obsessed with two things as a kid, football and art, it was perhaps inevitable the two would eventually cross.
He shares how experimenting during some pandemic enforced downtime resulted in the holy grail of commissions with Nike, how and where he finds inspiration, the Importance of creating something different, and the difficulty of doing so in an increasingly competitive landscape.
Dave has enjoyed a long career working with some big clubs and bigger brands (t may have been very different were it not for a collision between his bike and a parked car) and offers some sound lessons to anyone finding their way in the industry on self worth and looking for value in a client.
Enjoy!
