Description

In this episode Tammy will be talking to Gethin Jones about how he’s worked to maintain his emotional resilience throughout his career in the criminal justice sector, and continues to do so while running his own company guiding prison workers, local authorities and the third sector to unlock their potential. They discuss: the emotional intelligence required to recognise the resilience of your staff, the importance of balancing human to human relationships while maintaining professional boundaries and acknowledging the support we need to maintain emotional resilience.

Welcome to series 3 of the Training 4 Influence Podcast. This series, as requested by you, our listeners, will be focused on emotional resilience, how to build and maintain it, and why it’s so important for those working in the criminal justice, social care and charity sector.

Without emotional resilience frontline professionals are at risk from suffering from burnout, vicarious trauma and significant mental health issues - we’ll be sitting down with guests, in different job roles, to hear real stories of both avoiding burnout and rebuilding after it. Our aim is to share positive thoughts and ideas that will inspire, protect and motivate frontline professionals.

Gethin Jones is an inspirational speaker, trainer, coach and published author. He has a unique experience of the social care and criminal justice system after growing up within the care system and spending time in foster care, children’s homes and secure units. Gethin received his 1st criminal conviction at the age of 11 and first custodial sentence at 14. He ended up spending 8 years of his life behind a prison wall and developed a dependancy on heroin. In 2006 Gethin went through a fundamental shift and became a senior manager within the same local authority that was his corporate parent. In 2018 he published his personal development book ‘Unconscious Incarceration: How to Break Out, Be Free and Unlock Your Potential’ and in January 2021 he will be releasing his second book ‘How to F**k Up and Still Succeed: Think It, Say It, Do It and Unlock Your Potential’.

We hope you enjoy listening to this discussion about why, after experiencing burnout and a lack of emotional resilience while working in the social care and criminal justice system, both Gethin and Tammy believe that the first person we have to look out for is ourselves.
