Hey there, Nicole Burnett here! I'm thrilled you're joining me for this episode of the Resilient Reiner podcast. As a your mindset coach, I'm here to help you elevate your mental performance in western equestrian sports and reach new heights.
Today, I shared a powerful tool I personally use to enhance my performance - meditation. I likened the mind's tendency to be overwhelmed by negative thoughts during a show to a 'brain freeze,' and how meditation can help thaw these freezes and refocus our minds.
Meditation has been a game-changer for me, helping me stay focused, be fully in the moment, and set aside all other worries when I'm in the saddle. It has also given me the ability to detach from my thoughts and to understand that they are not a reflection of my identity.
During the episode, I explored the idea that experiencing fear and doubt is part of the human experience. These feelings are not indications of failure but are protective mechanisms of the brain. Understanding this can shift our perspective on these thoughts, and help us transform our relationship with them.
I emphasized the power of reshaping our thinking patterns. By doing this, we can approach our riding with more gratitude, empathy, and positivity, which leads to a notable improvement in performance.
I truly believe in the potential benefits of meditation for all riders, and so, guided listeners through a brief moment of mindful breathing. Focusing on the sound of your breath and being present in the moment can kickstart your meditation journey.
I am eager to hear about your experiences and thoughts about this episode, so do reach out via social media! Also, I look forward to sharing more strategies to increase mental toughness and resilience in western equestrian sports in each week's episode.
Remember, it's all about becoming resilient reiners, one ride at a time. See you in the next episode!
Nicole
