All too often I've heard people in the personal development space spreading this narrative that the purpose of going through a healing journey is so that you can walk other people through their healing journeys. So that you can help other people find their way through a dark path or a challenging situation.
The problem with this mindset of making other people the focus of our own healing is that we actually end up bypassing our own healing. By making other people the focus of our journeys, we prevent ourselves from going deep enough within ourselves to do the real work. We bypass vulnerability and connection. We skip over the actual work necessary to truly heal.
And while it is true that we are often called to show others the way once we've gone the way, ourselves, that should never be the purpose or intention of our journey. We can't show other people the way if we haven't truly gone the way first for ourselves.
