Today we continue our Relationship Series talking about attachment styles. An attachment style is more or less how you show up in your relationships, whether those are parent-child relationships, your friendships, your dating relationships, your marriage, or your partnerships. It’s how you behave in relationships. I dig into some the motives behind those behaviors, the inherent desires that are fueling those behaviors, and the fears that might be contributing to how you show up in relationships.
I also discuss what personality traits as well as what environmental circumstances might have contributed to the development of your attachment style.
There are four attachments styles, characterized by the level of avoidance (high or low) and the level of anxiety (high or low) that you demonstrate in your relationships.
A secure attachment style is categorized by low anxiety and low avoidance.
An anxious attachment style is characterized by high anxiety and low avoidance.
An avoidant attachment style is characterized by low anxiety and high avoidance.
And an anxious-avoidant (or fearful-avoidant) attachment style is characterized by high anxiety and high avoidance.
I also talk a little bit about what steps you can take to heal from an unhealthy attachment style in your relationships and how you can start to move toward having more healthy secure attachments in your personal relationships.
