A decline in work in the central business district results in less foot traffic and consumption for the area, which in turn leads to less business tax revenue that can be used to provide services to the people left behind. When this scenario is played out long enough it creates a feedback loop that reduces the overall quality of life inside the central business district and eventually, it ends in the death of the city.
San Francisco is a working model of what a “Doom Loop” looks like in real-time as the central business district is overrun with criminals and drug addicts while the local government enacts insane laws that all but seal the fate of one of America’s formerly most beautiful cities.
