What is “Peer Leadership”
Peer: Someone who is equal to you in terms of authority and responsibility
Leadership: Being ahead of everyone else and bringing your team to you future state (listen to Episodes 7 & 8 for more on this topic)
The Question: How are you supposed to lead when you don’t have power over people? Why would they listen to you? Why would they even care?
Build your own credibility. To lead people, you need some sort of credibility in order for people to listen to you. You have no power, no authority, so give people a reason to listen to you.
Communicate why it matters. No one likes being told what to do, especially from someone who does not have power over them. Offering a reason of why it matters, however, can help accomplish even the least enjoyable of objectives.
