It’s WP Bacon… Texas Style!
So, it’s been a while since we did one of these shows. We’ve had a lot of stuff going on lately and one of the biggest issues was a negative SEO attack. We’re getting back on our feet again, and thought we’d try a new format for the Baconcast. Instead of a formal interview style show, we’re doing a more casual hangout and Q&A type show this time around.
Maybe it’s because WordPress was born in Texas, or maybe it’s just because Texas is awesome. Whatever the case may be, we moved to Texas recently and thought it’d be fun to have a bunch of the Texas WP community hang out with us and talk shop for a while.
We had a lot of fun on this show and while it probably wasn’t the most informative or productive episode of the Baconcast, we did talk about a few important issues. One that stuck out was the recent XML-RPCÂ vulnerability within the core of WordPress. Matt Gross pointed out that he’d like to see WordPress core address this somehow. At the moment, your only real defense is disabling XML-RPC entirely which can be done with a plugin. Hopefully this gets sorted out soon!
Aside from that, we talked a lot about WordCamps and how they’ve grown over the years. Since WordCamp Austin is coming up April 26 & 27, 2014 we talked about who’s going to be there and what you can expect at a WordCamp. Ozzy rambled about sports for a while and offended all the guests by assuming they love the Cowboys and Carrie brandished a firearm in a threatening manner.
We heard a bit about what’s been going on with the Thesis framework lately from Matt Gross which was cool because things have been a little quite on that front lately. Matt explained why they do things the way they do within Thesis and how they’ve moved away from some of the core functionality of WordPress. We’d like to talk more about this in the future so keep an eye out for an upcoming show with Thesis creator Chris Pearson.
Overall, this was a really awesome show full of cool WordPress information and great WordPress people. Hope you enjoyed it. Let us know in the comments if you’d like to see more of these types of shows!
