One of the main reasons I decided to start the Your Band Sucks (At Business) podcast was how I saw bands handling their local market when it came to gigs. I had noticed something:
The bands who could pack a venue full of people would only play a few times a year. In contrast, the bands who played constantly would struggle to pull out even a handful of people.
What does this equate to? Answer: supply and demand.
Playing gigs can be a huge source of revenue, and the old model of 'touring = success' has hungry bands scrambling to take every gig that comes their way - but in reality, it's your demand, not the supply, that makes all the difference.
Thus, my wonderful cohost, Marcus Manhas, and I decided to breakdown the core value metrics of accepting a show offer into three categories:
You'll have to listen to the episode for a breakdown of what we mean by each of those points, but hopefully you'll be looking at accepting shows in an entirely new light by the end of it.
