After a travel break, Ken and Betsey reconnect to catch up on the headlines. Mitt Romney's announcement that he will not seek another Senatorial term included his opnion that "it's time for a new generation of leaders" to take the stage. It puts the spotlight on both the current President (80) and the former President (77) and other hangers on like Mitch McConnell (81), Dianne Feinstein (who is retiring at age 90), Bernie Sanders (81), Nancy Pelosi (83), Steny Hoyer (83) and Jim Clyburn (82). Betsey calls them "geriatric politicians." Ken remembers the concept of "mandatory retirement." The Hunter Biden indictment triggers a case of whataboutism. Mitt Romney's sage advice comes at an opportune time: no one seems to want the Presidential match-up that the polls are predicting. The conversation turns to a discussion of Ken's new Substack page and his essays around three books that take on a troubling doctrine. A professor, a psychologist and a philosopher all challenge traditional teachings about heaven and hell. Ken's biggest issue is with "eternal conscious torment." Betsey weighs in - and the two speculate about what another author calls "the great dechurching."
