You don't need to be an athlete to reap the massive benefits of speed and power based training...and you also don't need to dedicate entire training sessions to it.
Simply add it to the end of your warm-up, as a transition into your main exercises in your already established training regime.
Use it or lose it.
This principle states that if you don't practice something, or use a specific ability, you will lose the ability to do that thing. We don't stop moving when we grow old, we grow old when we stop moving.

14 - 20: I grew up and learned how to become a man through work and rugby
20 - 26: I lived, trained and fought as a professional soldier, at a high level
26 - 32: I became a personal trainer, after failing in my pursuit to become a firefighter
32 - 38: I worked with, and won world titles with some of the best athletes on the planet, as their strength and conditioning coach
