Arkansas State University, football player, Jared Summons, joined me on the show this week! A native of Little Rock, Arkansas. Jared was born into a humble environment. An athlete and competitor at a young age, Jared quickly noticed what his true love was, which is sports. Brother of Milwaukee Bucks Forward, Bobby Portis, Jared talked to me about how much life has changed as his brother has made a name for himself, in the world of basketball. Born into a family with a single mother, and four other brothers, Jared became quite close with his mother, and we talked about how she helped set him up for life and prepared him to make it out of the city of Little Rock. A growing household name, Jared quickly learned the ranks of the game of football and invested his time and body into becoming a premier athlete. Jared, a graduate of Parkview High School, was a defensive tackle for the Patriots. Jared, a 350-pound freshman, quickly realized he needed to take care of his body. Essentially learning more about the arts of working out, Jared took tremendous time throughout high school to work on his body. Spending summers in California with his brother’s, and professional trainers, Summons weighed in at 290 as a junior in high school. A switch from defensive to offense, Summons became an offensive lineman for his senior year. Racking up offers/interest from multiple schools, Summons eventually decided on Arkansas State University.
Summons chatted with me about what it’s like to play under head coach Butch Jones, and how he has learned to adapt to his new role. Summons left me with this, “I never gave up, failure is not a bad thing, you’re either a blessing or a lesson, if you get down on yourself don’t, failures come with life. Keep a positive mindset, and you will make it through”. I had a lot of fun with this episode, and I hope you guys enjoyed it. God blessed!
