University of Alabama at Birmingham men’s basketball player Jon Coleman sat down with me this week. Jon, born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas, immediately fell in love with the game of basketball at a young age. Coleman, the son of Little Rock Hall High school head coach, embraced the opportunity to play with his father throughout three amazing years at the high school level. A man of conquerors, Coleman led the Warriors to back-to-back state semifinals appearances and a state final appearance.
Coleman decided the next step of life would be best for him in Birmingham, Alabama under Head Coach Robert Ehsan. After the shutdown of the season last March, Ehsan was let go, and in came Alumni and former Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy. Coleman talked to me specifically about the differences between the two coaches, and how both coaches have helped elevate UAB to higher standards. Conference USA (C-USA), has definitely grown, and the ability to be a part of that growth has truly made Coleman feel grateful.
Coleman also chatted with me about his relationship with his best friend, Oral Roberts Guard and Arkansas native Issac McBride, saying that McBride was really the only player that ever gave him buckets in high school. A down-to-earth guy, Coleman enjoys spending time at home. Video games keeps him busy, and he’s an avid gamer particularly with Fifa, and a huge fan of Tottenham Spurs.
Majoring in business management, Coleman plans to become a coach after college and looks at the game quite differently than most players. Fulfilling a legacy, Coleman told me he wants to be remembered as a helpful person, as someone that always helped others as much as he could. This is an episode that I enjoyed very much, I hope you will as well. God bless everyone! Enjoy!
