Former Prairie View A&M football player and Owner/CEO of LegacyDriven Brent Thibeaux joined me on the show this week! Thibeaux, born in Oakland, California, discussed his book, The Compass, which talks about his childhood in the inner-city. A sports fanatic at a young age, Brent was a standout athlete playing both football and baseball, eventually earning a football scholarship to Prairie View A&M.

An inspired man, Thibeaux took the opportunity to write his own book. The love of reading is very special for Thibeaux, and he always felt there was never a book essentially fitted for young African American men, which is why he wrote his book, The Compass--so young men can have a compass to guide them correctly. Having grown up in a rough environment left and right, Thibeaux talked to me about the violence within his area, and the loss of many friends. A Kappa Alpha Si, Thibeaux talked to me about the love for his fraternity, and the learning experiences he got from his father about it, who pledged to the same fraternity. A family man at heart, we talked about many different family members, and how each one of them individually influenced his life, and how he still uses their words of advice, to this day.

The essence of connections has been very vibrant for Thibeaux, whether it be in sports, business, or through his love for reading. Thibeaux has been allowed the gift to travel and has been able to connect with people around the world. His passion to change the world helped elevate him. A devoted, passionate lover of HBCU’s, Thibeaux is also a graduate of Grambling State University, where he earned his master’s degree.

As always, I ended this episode by asking what legacy does my guest wants to be remembered for, and Thibeaux left me with this, “A visionary, someone that carried a torch. Be different and carry more for yourself.” He’s a family friend, and I hope you enjoy this! God bless everyone!
