Here it is! Ohio State Women’s basketball assistant coach, Jalen Powell, joined me for the last episode of season three. Growing up in Long Island, New York, Powell lived a busy and complex lifestyle. Powell’s father, a well-known NBA trainer, instilled a love for sports in her at a young age. Powell grew up loving and playing many sports, but basketball ultimately became her true love. Playing basketball all throughout high school, her plans were strong. She did not want to play basketball after high school, though, so she searched for something else to do in basketball. Coach Matt Insell, at the time arriving at Ole Miss, reached out to her father, knowing Powell wanted to get into coaching, Powell received a full scholarship to be a manager for the women’s team. A completely different lifestyle than in New York, the transition was very difficult at first, but the people around her made her feel at home.

Graduating from Ole Miss, she was offered another opportunity, this time as a graduate assistant at the University of Arkansas, under Coach Mike Neighbors. Now at Ohio State under Kevin Mcguff,  what a story she is writing! Enjoying her first true coaching job and the way the Buckeyes are rolling this year, Coach Powell loves her team and where she is at life.

“Always respect the janitor, because you never know when the janitor can become the CEO,” was a quote that Coach Powell shared with me that resonated strongly. This is what she left me with: “Work hard, listen to others–listening and communicating is two way–and love everyone. You never know what people are going through. I always make sure I am super kind.” I truly enjoyed every second of talking to this great person, with her one-of-a-kind advice and pure joy. Thank you, Coach, for joining me! Please enjoy the episode folks, and learn, laugh, and smile. Thank you so much for your continued support. We have completed three full seasons! How about that! As I said, stay tuned–a lot is happening right now., I will be taking time away from the show . Thank you all, and as always, God bless!
