Austin Peay women’s basketball player, Tiya Douglas joined me on the show! A native of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Tiya was quickly open about her love for basketball. Her parents put a ball in her hands at a young age, a Kobe and Lebron lover, Tiya quickly fell right into the path for basketball. A very passionate and devoted person and player, Tiya told me she fell in love with basketball, by just training and working everyday to become a better player. Her parents success, motivated her to become better. Her mother, now at Baylor University as an assistant coach, and her father made sure she learned and developed her game the best way possible. Her high school career was placed perfectly, but unexpectedly Tiya would tear her ACL, forcing every dream of going D1 out the door, but only for the moment.
Graduating high school, Tiya would attend the number one junior college program in the nation that year, Trinity Valley Community College. Tiya, averaging 14 points per game, quickly became noticed around the country, the Univeristy of Mississippi, and Coach Yo, quickly caught attention. A growing player, now at Austin Peay. Tiya told me the biggest reason she transferred to Austin Peay, was because of newly hired Head coach Birttany Young.
A visionary and a passionate and honest coach, these assets quickly caught the eyes of Tiya. Tiya left us with this, “Stay true to yourself, no matter the situation, if you continue to remember who you are and your character, you will be alright.” A very positive and inspiring episode, I hope you learned a lot from a bright person. Enjoy! God blessed!
