Professional basketball player, Rakia Lane, joined me on the show this week. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Lane has had one of the most passionate stories I’ve ever had a chance to listen to in over three years of doing interviews. Lane talked to me about how she began playing basketball at age 5, and instantly she realized how important it could be in her life. A learner at heart, Laine’s life stories were full of maturity and experience and her compassionate mindset is something she demonstrates daily.
One of the best girls’ high school players in Arkansas in recent times, offers and interest didn’t cause Laine to lose focus on continuing to become a better player and person. Lane had a difficult career following high school, bouncing around from colleges due to multiple reasons, and truly began to lose herself. Her positive mindset began to fade, and this was something that was a visibly tough period of her life. Through a transformative journey following high school, Lane, after many years, ended up at Philander Smith College, where she originally wanted to be.
Following in her mother’s footsteps at PSC, Lane's life quickly turned around. Gaining the passion back to become the best on and off the court, Laine has now established herself as one of the best players to ever come through the entire city of Little Rock.
Lane, who has many intriguing stories to share, will soon begin her professional career in Portugal.
This is what Lane left me with, “Don’t quit, no matter what hits you, or how it hits you. Don’t quit”. I always enjoy speaking with people that grew up in the same place that I called home for my entire childhood, and this was no different. Passion, motivation, and grit are three words that I would use to describe Rakia Lane. I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I did, please enjoy! God bless!
