Teachers and first responders-- like police officers, fire fighters, doctors, nurses, members of the military and all essential workers like restaurant personnel, delivery folks--are the people we always say are the most important members of our society, except of course when it comes to paying them. Why is that? Who's to blame? What can we do abut it?
