Description

In this episode of Crowe Casts, Caroline Harwood, Head of Share Plans and Employment Tax at Crowe, discusses coronavirus, the furlough scheme and the long trek back to work.

Business leaders have warned of long lasting damage to city centres if employees continue to work from home due to COVID-19 .  With the recent launch of a campaign to get workers back to the office, Caroline discusses employee concerns about the return, as well as actions and precautions employers should be considering.

Also in this episode, as we see the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (the ‘furlough’ scheme) come to an end, recent studies suggest that during the peak of the pandemic around a third of furloughed employees were still working from home, contrary to the terms of the scheme. The vast majority of employers have complied with the government’s rules on furlough, but the way in which claims need to be calculated is complex and so it is very possible that innocent errors may have arisen. Listen to find out what actions you should be taking to ensure you are compliant and are not at risk of substantial penalties.
