"What’s different in 2020 than1968 is that the anti-war movement took a long time to make a tangible difference. We went on years of marches. All the way through the late 60s until '71, '72. It was really only at the end of that time that you can see that it was going our way. Up until then there was this tremendous pushback from people who knew servicemen or the "America Love it Leave it" crowd. And finally when Nixon ended the war and draft at the same time, it was this tremendous triumph and it also took the wind out of the movement. We didn't have a fall back position. We won the point! The war ended. The draft ended. For a lot of guys, that was tremendous freedom."
