Description

Message from Pastor Michael Porter on 1 John 2:15-17, given at FBC Windsor on 1/10/21.

 Sermon Text: 1 John 2:15-17
15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world —the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life— is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

Main Idea of the Text:
People who love the way of the world will miss the way to God.

Introductory Remarks:
The letter of 1 John begins by laying the foundation of true Christianity: the historical incarnation of the Word, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the foundation of the faith because it is only through the cross of Christ that we are called out of the darkness and brought into the light. John knows this and takes this seriously, so he provides us with several “tests” to see whether we truly have fellowship with the Father. In a nutshell, the first is obedience to God and the second is love for God’s people. But there is a counterbalance to this. In order to be obedient to God and to love His people, we must not love the world or the things of this world. What does this mean?
