Sometimes, with kids around, amongst the day to day shuffle, keeping the house organized, and keeping arts & crafts spaces in order, feels impossible. Today’s guest, Amy Wilson, offers some spectacular tips on everything from cleaning up clutter, to purging old items, and room design, that will allow you to truly live by the adage “Home is Where the Heart is.”
About our guest:
I am an interior designer based in Sydney Australia. My philosophy is that a home is the ultimate reflection of who you are and what you love and every home has a unique identity which should be celebrated and enjoyed. I am known for classic, sophisticated and inviting spaces that are not only beautiful, but functional as well. Our home and our space is part of who we are and what better way to celebrate that than to decorate it with passion, enthusiasm and a keen eye for detail.
5:30 Keeping Arts & Crafts spaces clean and tidy
“Some kids are not at the stage of reading yet so with labeling, what I like to do is actually print a photo (...) so that your kids who are younger who can't read yet, they can visually see where to put things."
8:40: How often do you purge?
“Try once a month, just do a little checkup, you know, have a little quick browse; make sure things are working”
10:05: Keeping things tidy with the hustle and bustle of the kids
“There’s so many incredible designs when it comes to furniture; you know you can get these amazing coffee tables that become a desk, and they have drawers, and they lift up and have all these compartments that you can shove all these tiny little bits and pieces into.”
19:45: Storage of artwork
“You know when they're 18 years old, you can even keep some of the books and wrap them up and give it to them as a gift, you know, and show them the little artist that they grew up to be.”
23:25: What if I am not naturally organized?!
“Just taking that one little extra minute during the day that you go and you just fold the sheets over and puff up the pillows, and you've got a beautiful bed waiting for you when you get home.”
28:15: Flooring Ideas
“You should look into rugs that are made from something called polypropylene.”
32:25: The Lost box
"Instead of having all these strewn out, you know, little pieces scattered everywhere. I've got it all in one place and I go: 'Ah, I think it might be in the lost box. ' "
35:40: Design Trends
“Everyone's homes are unique and that's what makes us special”
