This week KCR celebrates all things birds for National Bird Week 2020. Join host Perrie Croshaw as she talks with Ralph Stadus from Illawarra Birders about his favourite Kiama LGA bird-watching spots, his rare sightings of incredible birds and the range of birds that call Kiama home.

Perrie also speaks with Yolande Cozijn from Birdlife Shoalhaven about the Aussie Backyard Bird Count which starts today and runs until Sunday 25 October. Connect with the birds in your backyard (or in your local park, beach or anywhere!) and help scientists understand more about the birds that live where people live. Anyone can participate - you don’t need to be a ‘bird nerd’ - just download the Aussie Backyard Bird Count app and follow the prompts to help you identify the birds you see.

Local artist and bird watcher, Carla Jackett is also featured on the program talking about her upcoming participation in this year’s Birdlife fundraiser, Twitchathon. This year, the race to spot local birds is focussed on raising funds for The Origma Enigma, a project looking at where NSW cryptic birds are living after last summer’s horrific bushfires. To support the fundraiser, please visit 2020 Twitchathon.
