"Sporty Spice is not the only one without a fellah!" exclaims my dear sister as she watches Bend it Like Beckham, taking issue with all Spice Girls references. As mentioned, this week we are talking about Bend it Like Beckham, a sports film about LADIES doing SPORTS! The nerve! There's Jess, there's Jules, and there's Joe! Clearly the cut for making it into the story is to have a name with the letter "J". More importantly Joe is hot, Irish hot, which makes him hot when you're sober AND you're drunk, a rare quality indeed. Jess is a young woman from a traditionally Indian family struggling to balance filial piety and destiny, aka, "which is more important, being like Mia Hamm or learning to make Aloo Gobi?" The answer may surprise you! *aside* It's both! The real question that needs to be answered, should our hosts decide on saying soccer or football (futbol, fütbol, feetball?)?
