Have you ever walked into a room or place of business and not felt comfortable? Not for any reason you could pinpoint, it just felt "off". Do you sleep well? Maybe it is something about how your bedroom is designed that gets in the way of your sleep.

When I started working at my last high school, I decided to paint my office a fun color. I chose a neon green color and it was quite the conversation starter. Most students thought it was cool, but one day a student stood in my doorway and he said, "I could never go in here." I asked him why and he said, "It is just too loud." I had never thought about how the color of my office could be a barrier to someone feeling comfortable in my office. I wanted to be fun or pick a trendy color. I have been in classrooms, where I feel too closed in.

After visiting with my guest, Carolyn Feder Gold, I realized that many students and young people are affected by the environment of their school and home and they may not even realize what is negatively triggering them. Their parents might not know about it either. This is such an important topic to consider for your homes, schools and/or your places of business.
