In this episode we discuss Pamela N. Harris timely and gripping teen novel about a boy who must take up the search for his sister when she goes missing from a neighborhood where Black girls’ disappearances are too often overlooked. “When You Look Like Us”
Astrid Ferguson and Alexandra Hodge discuss with Pamela Harris the disparities in the cases discussed between black women and black men gone missing. The protection that appears to be missing in most neighbors in regards to black women. We briefly discuss our thoughts behind the Black Lives Matter movement and defunding the police. When You Look Like Us comes at a moment in time where cases like Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, and so many more have left us with bitter endings. Pamela, Astrid and Alexandra discuss keeping the hope alive for our black and brown communities even when it appears hopeless.
