The people of my country, IRAN, are fighting for their lives.
their FREEDOM
The freedom to EXPRESS their needs
The freedom to SPEAK their truth
The freedom to CHOOSE their want
The freedom to VOICE their opinions
Basic human rights.
I live in america.
I don't live in iran.
Yet most of the time i find myself NOT expressing my needs, NOT speaking my truth, NOT choosing what i want, NOT voicing my opinions.
Why?
I am not forced to wear a hejab to cover my hair in america
So why not speak, express, choose, voice?
Because i wear another kind of covering
An invisible one
A barrier
A shield
that i hide behind, that “protects” me. That keeps me “Safe”
I rather play small than feel rejection
I rather bury my truth than feel judgment
I rather stay quiet than be seen
Don't take your freedom for granted.
Express. Speak. Choose. Voice.
