Description

Experience is a concept, word, and action that molds us in a myriad of ways and can change preconceived notions or beliefs at any time in our lives. Suzanne and James dive into how “experience” affects our ethos, conversations, and relationships. What can we, as world citizens, do in a very challenging, heated, and precarious time to make sure we try to understand someone else’s experience, even if their belief system differs from ours? James also discusses his business, Lowcountry Speaker Series, and their upcoming live webinars and Q&As with some of the world’s top talent. All of these ideas and more are explored in this episode! More About James:

James Lamar, Wall Street money manager and former Naval Aviator, was born in South Carolina at the Charleston Naval Hospital and moved around the country 7 times growing up.

He grew up adapting to changing geographies, cultures, and viewpoints, and these life experiences led him to the US Air Force Academy and a desire to serve as a Naval Aviator.

During his nine years in the Navy, Lamar began challenging himself to seek knowledge outside traditional publications and the 24-hour news cycle; his experience in the military gave him insight into the ways our country portrays and delivers information to the public at large. He has continued to see these patterns throughout his years on Wall Street. Because of his personal history and sensibilities, he decided to start the Lowcountry Speaker Series in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, bringing in the best and most successful minds and talent in their field, from Condoleezza Rice to world-renowned British photographer, Platon. Lamar strongly believes that seeing and hearing directly from an expert can have a dramatic impact on pre existing perceptions and opinions. He wants to share that experience and hopes that the Lowcountry Speaker Series becomes an annual recurring event for the intellectual enrichment of the community.

Memorable quote:
“It’s not about blue or red--Democrat or Republican; it’s about right vs. wrong.”
- James Lamar
