Christmas in the OT: The Fulfillment of a Promise
Genesis 3; Isaiah 52:10, 13-14; Isaiah 53:1-6

Why do we need a Savior?
Genesis 3:1-7
     ·       The devil did what the devil has always done.
     ·       Every living person committed every type of sin.
     ·       The fig leaves were only a figurative covering.

Genesis 3:8-13
     ·       They were wise enough to hide, by dumb enough to think they wouldn’t be found.
     ·       They played the blame game hoping to avoid shame.

Genesis 3:14-19
     ·       The devil was dealt dust and will be delivered to destruction.
     ·       Eve received what the devil deceived her with and more.
     ·       Adam learned to yearn and earned death.
     ·       Creation became collateral damage.

Genesis 3:20-24
     ·       The leaves they were dressed in were replaced by animal skin.
     ·       Because of their sin, they were ousted from within.

How will the curse be corrected?

Isaiah 52:10
     ·       His might will be in sight.
     ·       Heavenly salvation will be visible on earth.

Isaiah 52:13-14
     ·       The Savior will be a suffering servant.
     ·       The man will be mercilessly mutilated.

Isaiah 53:1-3
     ·       He will be unrecognized and unexpected.
     ·       He will be scorned and sorrowful.

Isaiah 53:4-6
     ·       The Savior will suffer and die for our sin.

What does this have to do with Christmas today?
1.      We are exactly like Adam and Eve.
     a.      We have been tempted.
     b.      We have committed every type of sin.
     c.      We blame others.

2.      Our sin has had the same effect as their sin.
     a.      We attempt to fix our sin.
     b.      Our sin has hurt people and things around us.
     c.      We are removed from the presence of God.

3.      We need a Savior.
     a.      One who could be tempted like us yet remains perfect.
     b.      One who could die like us, yet without cause.
     c.      One who could deliver us without fault.

John 1:9-14
     ·       The Birth of Jesus signals the beginning of the fulfillment of God’s promise for our Salvation.

What are we to do?

1.     Accept the gift of salvation.
     2.     Revel in the fulfilled promise.
