The seven churches of the Revelation do not represent simply seven historical, local churches in Asia Minor which received their names from the towns in which they were located. I believe that these letters to the seven churches are applicable to seven great periods in the history of the Christian church, beginning with the apostolic church and preceding through the church that will stand ready when Christ returns. Let's take a look.
