In May 2016, Doug co-founded Mynd with the vision of building the leading property management company for mid-market residential rental properties in the United States. Mynd leverages technology, systems, and data to enhance team efficiency, delivering a superior experience for renters and improved investment performance for property owners.
Previously, in 2009, Doug co-founded Waypoint Homes, a trailblazer in the single-family rental (SFR) industry. Under his leadership, Waypoint grew to over 600 employees and managed approximately $3.5 billion in assets, including a portfolio of 17,000+ rental homes. The company became the second-largest public SFR REIT. Doug initially served as Co-CEO and later as CEO, earning recognition for his entrepreneurial achievements. His accolades include being named one of Goldman Sachs’ Top 100 Most Innovative Entrepreneurs (2012), overseeing the 6th fastest-growing company in the Bay Area by the Business Times (2013), and receiving Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year for Northern California (2014).
From 1994 to 2005, Doug had a distinguished career as a placekicker in the National Football League (NFL). He was part of the Super Bowl-winning San Francisco 49ers team in 1994 and served as team captain and NFLPA Player Representative during his tenure with the New Orleans Saints. When he retired, Doug ranked among the top ten most accurate kickers in NFL history and remains the all-time leading scorer at the University of California, Berkeley.
Doug has also been deeply involved in philanthropic initiatives. He founded and led several nonprofit organizations, including Kick for Kids’ Sake and The Leo Brien Foundation. Additionally, he serves on the United States Olympic Ethics Committee and the National Board for BUILD (www.build.org), furthering his commitment to ethical leadership and education.
Doug holds a B.A. in Political Economies of Industrial Societies from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.B.A. from Tulane University, which he earned while playing for the New Orleans Saints. He also completed the Wharton Sports Business Initiative Program in Entrepreneurial Management at the University of Pennsylvania and was selected as a member of the NFL’s inaugural business program class.
