We speak with Ian Haddock about the queer people of color's response in the times of COVID. Ian L. Haddock is the Executive Director of The Normal Anomaly Initiative, Inc. With a wealth of knowledge in the public health field and community activist work, Ian uses a healing justice and harm reduction lens to tackle the multiplicity of traumas that are felt at the intersections of Black and Queer. Then, we speak with Annise Parker, the president and CEO of the LGBTQ Victory Fund and Victory Institute about the record number of openly LGBTQ candidates elected to office. There are 986 known* out LGBTQ elected officials in the United States – a 17 percent increase in the past year – according to LGBTQ Victory Institute’s Out for America 2021 report, which was released today. While a large increase, LGBTQ people hold just 0.19 percent of elected positions in the United States, despite making up at least 5.6 percent** of the U.S. adult population. Americans must elect 28,116 more LGBTQ people to public office for LGBTQ people to achieve equitable representation (serving in 5.6 percent of elected positions).
