Today I sit down with Tara Lee-Burke and talk dogs, law enforcement and military! Tara was born and raised in South Jersey. She graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in 2005 and shortly after graduation she was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. She was on active duty in the Army for 4 years with one deployment to Iraq from 2006-2007. She got out of the Army in 2009 and immediately commissioned as an officer in the US Coast Guard. She spent 2 more years on active duty before becoming a police officer in 2011 with Arlington Police Department. She remained as a reserve Coast Guardsmen and deployed to Afghanistan in 2014. In 2015 she she left Arlington and moved to South Carolina. She then started as a police officer for Summerville PD. in 2016 she was selected as a K9 handler and was paired with GSD named "Apart". in early 2017 her K9 unit supervisor left law enforcement and she was selected as his replacement! She held that position until she left in july of 2021. She officially opened her dog training business "Ridgeside K9 Summerville" and hasnt looked back!
Tara is an avid working dog sports handler and trainer and competes in PSA, and instructs during "Deadpool Decoy School" seminars around the country!
