Can you go ham on Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, etc, and still make progress? 

Absolutely. 

Then how come the majority of the people do it and end up fatter, more sluggish, and with less energy in January than in October? 

Because there's a caveat to it. 

And no, it has nothing to do with restricting your drinking...

Or to limit the gravy...
