On this week’s episode, we’re talking about drugs. What makes something a drug? There are a wide range of plants with consciousness-altering abilities that have been utilized by humans for thousands of years.
Caffeine was discovered to help people stay awake for longer, which in turn made them able to work longer hours and stay focused on tasks for extended periods of time. This played a huge role in the rise of capitalism, and societal norms that are still emphasized today, like the coffee break.
Entheogenic plants like psilocybin have shown to have intense mind-expanding capabilities when consumed, with little addictive potential. So why are some plants banned and others promoted? Is there a larger agenda at play?
This episode encourages further research from our listeners. We cover a lot of ground, all of which serves as great entry points to the deeper discussions that are required for full understanding.
