Matthew’s Miracles Sermon on the Mount: God’s Moral Health Manual
All authors write with a certain style. Matthew’s method is easy to observe. (1.) He gives summary statements at junctures in his story of Jesus Christ. We have such a one in 4:23-25 where he writes, “Now Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. And great multitudes followed Him.” (2.) Matthew groups the teachings of the Messiah and does the same with His miraculous works. For example, in chapters 5-7 we have a collection of His sayings we call the Sermon on the Mount and then in chapters 8-9 we have an abundance of His healings and miracles, nine to be precise, along with a couple of those summary statements. There are scattered teachings and miracles throughout Matthew, but in several places he groups these things. If you’re looking for a certain parable Jesus told you will more than likely find it in Matthew 13 where there are seven of them. There are more scattered throughout Matthew, particularly chapters 20-21-22, but the bulk of them are grouped in chapter thirteen. If you want to know about the second coming you can read all about it in Matthew 24-25, where Jesus answers the question, “What will be the sign of Your coming and of the end of the age?” (24:3)
After giving a snapshot of the ministry of Jesus (4:23-25) and before he gives a collage of miracles (chapters 8-9) Matthew gives us this sermon which consist of the ethical and moral instructions concerning how those in His kingdom are to live. Though they are moral, they are more than that. They are geared toward health. If we live by these teachings we will live good moral lives, but we will also live healthier lives. Holiness and health are related. In living both healthy and holy lives we are doing the main things: we are glorifying God and bearing the image of Christ who lived both a healthy and a holy life... to read more click on the following link:
