What Can the Devil Do?
I mean what can the devil do if you let him? And I don’t mean let him in the sense of giving him permission. Criminals don’t ask permission to rob and kill. We have things we can do to keep him at bay and if we don’t do them, he will steal, kill and destroy us and our loved ones. We must be vigilant in resisting him.
An old church catechism that dates back to 1646 says that the chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Far be it from me to say that a 400-year church creed is wrong, but how do we best glorify God? I’d rather go to the Bible to find man’s chief end, why God made and saved man. In Genesis 1:26 and Romans 8:29 it says that the chief end of man is to be like God, to bear His image, that we might have dominion over the earth (everything on it, in it and under it), to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.
The chief end of man is to be like Jesus. That is what glorifies God. He glorified God in everything. When we think like Jesus we glorify God. When we speak like Jesus we glorify God. When we do the works of Jesus, that glorifies God. It glorifies God when we are healthy, because Jesus was healthy. It glorifies God when we do miracles because Jesus worked miracles.
