Season 1 Podcast 37, “Politics and the Language of Hate.”
In his essay, “Shooting an Elephant”, George Orwell observed:
“I perceived in this moment that when the white man turns tyrant it is his own freedom that he destroys. He becomes a sort of hollow, posing dummy, the conventionalized figure of a sahib. For it is the condition of his rule that he shall spend his life in trying to impress the ‘natives’, and so in every crisis he has got to do what the ‘natives’ expect of him. He wears a mask, and his face grows to fit it.”
How well that image fits our politicians today. They wear a mask, and their face grows to fit it. They begin to believe their own lies. They rob from the rich and give to the poor, and rather than admit that it is for personal gain and personal power, they begin to see themselves as Robin Hood, and thus justify all their actions in the name of charity. They even believe that the ends justify the means, making truth irrelevant. The first casualty of all righteous causes gone awry is truth.
It is a short distance from righteous indignation to lust for power. The moment that conscience is relegated to a cause, exonerating one from personal responsibility, the door is open for any behavior, no matter how deceitful, evil, or bizarre, that advances personal ambition.
Let me draw your attention to patterns used by the left to instill division in America. At the forefront of the news today are the issues of homosexuality, gender identity, racism, sexism, and immigration. It is a given, held by most rational people, that persecution of anyone because of sexual orientation, race, gender, color, religion, etc. is bad. With that assumption, all the left must do is to convince the masses that their opponents are homophobic, xenophobic, racist, sexist, misogynistic, Islamophobic, etc.
Although the issues differ, the pattern is the same. It is a human failure that those with fixed opinions, who are in the majority, often persecute those who do not bow to their standards. Some use violence to express their contempt for those whose styles or opinions differ from their own. Those who persecute others for perceived differences all follow the same pattern. However, though there are conclaves of hate groups, prejudice is an individual battle, and the self-serving accusations made by the left against conservatives, claiming they hate women, hate gays, hate blacks, hate immigrants, or hate Muslims are blatantly false, though some conservatives as well as some liberals may very well fit into that category.
For political gain, however, the social democrats continually slander conservatives for it is in their vested interest to divide the nation while they hide behind the veil of charity. They cannot establish a new world order unless they first convince the nation that the old-world order is broken and is the cause of all their misery.
All revolutions are built on discontent. Today their targets are whites, Christians, wealthy, and conservatives. They want to be the champions of women; therefore, to get the women’s votes, they must convince the nation that all conservatives hate women. They want to be the champions of blacks; therefore, they must convince the nation that all blacks are victimized by white conservatives because all white conservatives are inherently racists. In other words, racism is systemic among whites and conservatives. They want to be the champions of gays; therefore, they must convince the nation that all gays are victims of conservative policies and that all conservatives hate gays. They want to be the champions of the poor; therefore, they must convince the working class that the wealthy are exploiting them, that conservatives are the cause of their problems and that all wealthy people are evil. Only in that way can they justify stealing from the r
