Mishlei 11:5 - The Progress and Pitfalls of the Tamim
צִדְקַת תָּמִים תְּיַשֵּׁר דַּרְכּוֹ, וּבְרִשְׁעָתוֹ יִפֹּל רָשָׁע:
"Breaking your teeth on Gemara" is a well-known idiom. This evening (11/29/21), in our Monday Night Mishlei Shiur, we "broke our teeth on Mishlei." The the pasuk we learned wasn't inherently difficult. Some meforshim explicitly said that there are no new ideas here. We came up with three nice explanations. The "teeth-breaking" took place in the discussion and anaylsis, which required fluency in a number of nuanced Mishleic concepts, and the difficulty level kicked into high gear once we attempted to learn Rabbeinu Yonah's commentary. If you're going to listen to this shiur, know that it's not for the faint of heart.
