Saint Tamar (or Tamara) was queen of Georgia in the years 1184-1213. This was considered the apex of Georgia's golden age. Queen Tamar's Georgia was a Christian kingdom surrounded by hostile Muslim powers. Nevertheless, through her piety and competent leadership, Queen Tamar led her country into great military success against its enemies.
