Biblical Foundations of Prayer
WHY PRAY
Part 2

James 5:13 Is anyone among you afflicted (ill-treated, suffering evil)? He should pray. Is anyone glad at heart? He should sing praise [to God].

14 Is anyone among you sick? He should call in the church elders (the spiritual guides). And they should pray over him, anointing him with oil in the Lord's name.

15 And the prayer [that is] of faith will save him who is sick, and the Lord will restore him; and if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.
• Cant pray the prayer of faith without knowing the will.

16 Confess to one another therefore your faults (your slips, your false steps, your offenses, your sins) and pray [also] for one another, that you may be healed and restored [to a spiritual tone of mind and heart]. The earnest heartfelt, continued prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working].
17 Elijah was a human being with a nature such as we have [with feelings, affections, and a constitution like ours]; and he prayed earnestly for it not to rain, and no rain fell on the earth for three years and six months.  [1 Kings 17:1.]

18 And [then] he prayed again and the heavens supplied rain and the land produced its crops [as usual].  [1 Kings 18:42-45.]

19 [My] brethren, if anyone among you strays from the Truth and falls into error and another [person] brings him back [to God],

20 Let the [latter] one be sure that whoever turns a sinner from his evil course will save [that one's] soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins [procure the pardon of the many sins committed by the convert]. AMP

Is 56:6 "Also the sons of the foreigner Who join themselves to the Lord, to serve Him,
And to love the name of the Lord, to be His servants — Everyone who keeps from defiling the Sabbath, And holds fast My covenant —  7 Even them I will bring to My holy mountain, And make them joyful in My house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and their sacrifices Will be accepted on My altar; For My house shall be called a house of prayer for all nations."

* “Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests” (Eph 6:18).
* “Jesus told His disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray, be alert and do not give up” (Luke 18:1) Why did Jesus tell us to be alert and not give up? Faith is the victory.  Quitters don’t get the victory
* “God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of His Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times”  Romans 1:9-10)
* “As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you” (1 Sam 12:23).  Is a lack of a daily prayer life sin?
* “I thank God, whom I serve, as my forefathers did, with a clear conscience, as night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers” (2 Tim 1:3).  Only during church prayer times or in our personal lives?
* “O Lord, God of heaven, the great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant of love with those who love Him
